Dr. Karlene Gacita, a bilingual licensed psychologist, earned her Psy.D. from Albizu University in 2019 with a major in Clinical Psychology and concentration in Child Psychology. She completed an internship with an emphasis on children with severe emotional behavioral disturbances and crisis intervention at Astor Services for Children and Families in Bronx, New York. She is completing her postdoctoral fellowship at Lakewood Group LLC in Rockwall, Texas. Prior to entering the Lakewood Group, Dr. Gacita worked at Nicklaus Children Hospital in Miami, Florida for one-year facilitating individual, family therapy, and anger management/social skills group therapy for children and adolescents in an inpatient unit. She also administered neuropsychological, psychological, and personality assessments to children in a private practice setting. Given her experience working in the school system as an educator for eight years, Dr. Gacita aims to advocate for student needs within the classroom such as academic accommodations, consulting with education staff, and monitoring the integration of appropriate classroom recommendations. She presented at the Charleston Child Trauma Conference in Charleston, South Carolina on trauma experiences for youth with a cognitive or intellectual disability. Dr. Gacita is a member of American Psychological Association.
Dr. Gacita specializes in providing therapy services to children, adolescents, young adults, and families. She specializes in attention issues, anxiety, depression, behavioral problems, and parent training. Additional to therapy, she specializes in conducting assessments for mood disorders, behavioral issues, learning disabilities, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, and autism spectrum disorders. Dr. Gacita is experienced in the use of cognitive behavioral therapy as well as play therapy.
