Dr. Mehl is a licensed psychologist in private practice since 1981. He earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Miami University in Ohio. He completed his internship at the University of Texas Health Science Center Medical School in San Antonio, and completed an advanced internship at the Audie Murphy V.A. Hospital in San Antonio.

Dr. Mehl was a faculty member at Southwest Family Institute from 1984 to 1994. He was also a Clinical Assistant Professor at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, Department of Psychology from 1998 to 2005. He has been the Clinical Director of Youth Crossings and The Crossings for adults alcohol and drug treatment centers. He was the Chief Psychologist for the Horizon Recovery Mental Health Units in both Mesquite and at Lake Pointe Medical Center.

Dr. Mehl was also Chief Psychologist for the Pain Program at Charter Suburban Hospital in Mesquite, and at the Pathways geropsychiatry unit at Mesquite Community Hospital.

Dr. Mehl is a member of numerous professional societies. He was President of the Texas Psychological Association in 2011 and served as the Liaison Officer for Public Affairs in 1992 and 1993. Dr. Mehl was President of the Dallas Psychological Association from 1988 to 1989. He was a Supervisor and Clinical Member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, a past Diplomate of the American Board of Sexology and the American Academy of Pain Management.

Dr. Mehl is a frequent public speaker and serves on several public boards. He specializes in family therapy, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Learning Disorders, child and adult psychotherapy, mood disorders, sexual abuse, substance abuse, and stress management. His psychotherapy approach is problem focused, while bringing to bear a wide range of theoretical orientations and treatment techniques, resulting in efficient problem resolution.
